Affiliate marketing is a really good way to start to learn how to run an internet business. You get to start your own business without the headache of a conventional business like credit card processing, shipping, creating your own products and getting a copywriter to create a sales page for you.

1) Build your own list

This is one of the biggest mistakes that most internet marketers make. They do not build their own list. If I had done this when I first started marketing online I would have been a lot of further than what I currently am. You can earn much more money from a huge list than what your web site ever can by itself. If you send a visitor to a sales page then it will be very unlikely that they will ever return to your web site again. If you have your own email list then you can market over and over again to your prospects.

2) Focus on a project until it is successful

I remember when I first started online I was in such a hurry to complete a project and then move on. Unfortunately, I did not maximize my efforts by getting the most of the projects that I worked on. This is a very common mistake.

3) Start with free advertising

It is very important to first create your marketing system using free advertising like forum postings and article marketing. Once you have have a system in place that is tweaked for maximum return on investment you can start paid advertising and know exactly how much you will earn for every hundred visitors that you send to your web site.

4) Choose affiliate products that have a good sales page

One of the big mistakes that I made when I first started out was I promoted affiliate products with terrible sales page. Now I can immediately see if a sales page will convert and only select good quality products that have very good sales pages.
